Colca Canyon Tour Program

The Colca Canyon is one of the deepest in the world, and the valley is renowned not only for its spectacular landscapes but also for its ancient terraces and exceptional cultural heritage. In addition, the condor is one of the canyon’s oldest residents. If you want to see this immense bird soaring on the wind’s thermals, the Colca Canyon Tour is a must. We don’t offer one-day tours, as the travel time is demanding and can feel rushed. By including an overnight stay, you can fully enjoy everything the Colca Valley has to offer.

Day 1 – From Arequipa to the Colca Valley

Between 7:15 and 7:45 AM, we pick you up from your hotel in Arequipa for the approximately 3.5-hour drive to Chivay. Along the way, enjoy breathtaking views of the volcanoes Misti, Chachani, and Pichu Pichu. In the Pampa Cañahuas nature reserve, we make a short stop to observe vicuñas (a type of small alpaca) in their natural habitat at over 4,000 meters above sea level.

We make a detour to the Puruña Stone Forest, known for its unique rock formations and panoramic views. Next, we stop at a local restaurant for a cup of coca tea or another drink, including a demonstration of spinning and dyeing alpaca wool with natural Andean plants. Via Alto Sumbay and Tocra (approx. 4,400 m), where you’ll see llamas, alpacas, and lagoons with birds, we reach Pata Pampa (4,910 m), the highest point of the route and known as the “Andes Viewpoint.”

Upon arrival in Chivay (3,651 m), the colorful terraces of the Colca Valley come into view. We continue to the traditional village of Coporaque for lunch at La Casa de Mamayacchi, where we also spend the night. After lunch, you can participate in cultural activities and explore the village. Optionally, you can visit the hot springs. At the end of the day, relax at the hotel and enjoy dinner on-site.

Day 2 – Condor Spotting in Colca Canyon

After an early breakfast, we depart for the famous Cruz del Cóndor viewpoint, where you can admire the canyon’s immense depth and watch the Andean condors glide gracefully. Then, enjoy a short walk along the canyon’s edge (approx. 1 hour) for spectacular photo opportunities.

We then drive back toward Chivay, stopping at highlights such as the Antahuilque viewpoint (with centuries-old terraces) and the traditional villages of Maca and Yanque.

Around midday, we arrive in Chivay, where you have time for lunch. After lunch, we return to Arequipa, arriving around 4:00 PM.
