Máncora: our recommendations for your Peru trip

  • Climate: Tropical warmth year-round (around 30°C), making it easy to combine with your trip through Peru at any time.
  • Activities: Sun, sea, beach, and (kite)surfing.
  • Hotels: Our favorites are Las Olas and Del Wawa, both located directly on the beach. Del Wawa also offers surf lessons, and at both hotels you can use the beach loungers for free. Prefer a hotel with a (small) pool that’s still close to both the beach and the center of Máncora? Then choose La Quebrada! It has a great surf vibe and is just a bit quieter than the other two hotels (about 300 meters from the beach). For us, this was the ideal base when traveling with children.
  • Restaurants: We prefer local restaurants over the more touristy spots on the main street or by the sea—because we want truly fresh fish and ceviche! La Meche and Jasusi are must-visits if you want to try authentic local fish dishes. Tip: take a tuk-tuk for just a few soles to reach these eateries, which are located a bit further into the village.
  • Transport: From Lima, you can fly to Piura (then about 3 hours), Tumbes (2 hours), or Talara (only 1.5 hours), and then continue your journey by bus. We prefer flying to Talara, as it’s only a 1.5-hour bus ride to Máncora. Epo is the bus company that takes you there from Talara, with departures every half hour.
  • Length of stay: As long as you feel like relaxing! After that, you can fly back to Lima.

Trails

You want to visit Machu Picchu, but how do you get there? The Incas once had only one option: walking the ancient Trail. Today, you can still follow in their footsteps. And did you know there are even more routes leading to Machu Picchu?
