Lima: must-know tips for your Peru trip
- Discover Lima by Bike: Explore Lima in a fun and unique way, different from taking a taxi or public transport through the busy city. Along the route, you’ll also stop at some of the best restaurants to try typical Peruvian dishes.
- Public Transport: Prefer to explore the historic center on foot? Take the public buses (grey/blue buses) to the city for just 1 sol. Keep in mind that the journey from Miraflores takes around 45 minutes. A taxi takes about the same time due to heavy traffic and costs 30–40 soles (approximately 10 euros).
- Best Area to Stay: Miraflores is the ideal neighborhood, offering the widest range of hotels and B&Bs, plus the best selection of restaurants. The lively Kennedy Park, in the heart of Miraflores, is a great spot to visit both day and night.
- Hotels: Hotels in Lima are generally more expensive than in other regions of Peru, but there are plenty of nice B&Bs. Our favorite B&B is Pucllana Boutique (trendy). Traveling with kids? Casa Fanning, on the edge of Miraflores and Barranco, offers full apartments with multiple rooms and a tasty breakfast. For a luxurious stay, we recommend Innside Lima. All of these options are located in quiet areas—a rare find in this busy city!
- Restaurant: Tanta! This popular chain has multiple locations in Lima (including in the Larcomar shopping center and at the airport) and is our top choice for sampling a variety of authentic Peruvian dishes. Quality guaranteed!
- Length of Stay: To see the best spots in Lima, we recommend staying at least 2 nights.
