Combo: Lares & 2-Day Inca Trail

Is the 4-day Inca Trail sold out and are you looking for an alternative? Then your options usually come down to the Salkantay Trail, the Lares Trail, or the 2-day Inca Trail. However, the Lares and Salkantay routes do not finish at Machu Picchu via the Sun Gate. And the 2-day Inca Trail does include this iconic entrance—but only includes one full day of trekking.

So what’s the solution? We now offer a unique new program: the Lares Trail & 2-day Inca Trail combination. This is the only multi-day trek that still allows you to enter Machu Picchu via the Sun Gate.

Multi-day trek with Sun Gate arrival

With the growing popularity and limited availability of the classic 4-day Inca Trail, this combination trek is the perfect alternative for those looking for a meaningful multi-day hiking experience—without missing the magical arrival at Machu Picchu through the Sun Gate and its breathtaking first views of the ruins.

And with our personal service, you’re in good hands. We love nothing more than sharing our passion for Peru with you.

A unique program we created ourselves

While the classic 4-day Inca Trail remains the most famous option, we want to offer equally stunning alternatives—especially during high demand or when you prefer to avoid crowds and fully immerse yourself in the stunning Andes landscapes.

The best part? This is a unique itinerary personally designed by Jorge. We work closely with our own trusted network of guides, cooks, and local support teams.

Lares Trail: a great alternative to the Inca Trail

During the first two days, you will hike at altitudes of up to 4,500 meters. Despite this, this trek is less intense than the classic 4-day Inca Trail, as it involves fewer continuous steep ascents. Due to the altitude, temperatures remain cool, and you may even spot a cute alpaca right in front of your camera!

The Lares region is far less visited by tour operators compared to the areas around Machu Picchu, making this combination trek ideal for travelers looking for:

  • A multi-day trek in small groups
  • A peaceful route with plenty of personal guidance and time for breaks
  • A trek that can be completed with a moderate fitness level
  • A unique insight into Andean culture and local traditions
  • An arrival at Machu Picchu via the Sun Gate through the combined 2-day Inca Trail

A unique insight into Andean culture

In small groups, the journey starts in the high Andes. One striking feature is the traditional “houses” dating back to Inca times. These simple structures are still in use today, with local families living in homes that are often only around 150 cm (!) in height. Your guide will explain everything about the history and lifestyle of the local communities along the way.

What to expect from the Lares Trail & Inca Trail combo

You will spend the first night in a tent, where a delicious and nutritious meal is prepared by your cook. At the end of the second day, the journey continues to Ollantaytambo, where you will also spend the night.

On the third day, the “2-day Inca Trail” begins, where you hike part of the ancient Inca route towards Machu Picchu. You will reach the famous Sun Gate, where you’ll enjoy the most magical view of Machu Picchu.

That evening, you will stay in Aguas Calientes. The following morning, you will visit Machu Picchu with your group and guide. As always, we will ensure you are comfortably dropped off at your hotel in Cusco at the end of your journey.

You want to visit Machu Picchu, but how do you get there? The Incas once had only one option: walking the ancient Trail. Today, you can still follow in their footsteps. And did you know there are even more routes leading to Machu Picchu?
