Inca Trail 2-Day Program

The moment you set foot on the Inca Trail, the energy of the Andes and the spirit of Inca history surround you…

Day 1 – Inca Ruins Leading to the Sun Gate

Wake up early in the morning to travel by bus to the Ollantaytambo train station. From there, you’ll take the train to the trailhead, located about 104 km / 65 miles from Cusco. The Trail takes approximately 6 hours and passes several Inca archaeological sites, including Chachabamba, Wiñaywayna with its massive agricultural terraces, and Choquesuysuy.

Over the 12 kilometers / 7.5 miles of trekking on the first day, you’ll enjoy stunning views of the Urubamba River. Along the way, you’ll walk on the ancient Inca Trail and encounter Inca ruins and relics. Upon reaching the Sun Gate (Intipunku), you’ll catch your first breathtaking view of Machu Picchu. Here, your first guided tour begins, with stories and insights about this incredible Inca city. Afterwards, you’ll take the bus down to Aguas Calientes, where you’ll spend the night.

Day 2 – Visit Machu Picchu

A 2-hour guided tour via Circuit 3B is included with this Trail. This extensive route takes you along the architectural highlights of Machu Picchu, while your guide shares the history of the Incas and the story behind the creation of this legendary city.

In the late afternoon, you’ll take the bus back to Aguas Calientes, where you can optionally visit the hot springs or enjoy lunch at one of the local restaurants before returning by train to Cusco.

Climbing Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain

An exciting option is to climb Huayna Picchu, which means “Young Mountain.” This iconic green peak overlooks Machu Picchu and offers stunning views of the city, surrounding mountains, and valleys. The climb takes approximately 45 minutes and is not included in the standard Trail. You can purchase an additional ticket and dedicate Day 2 of your itinerary to this incredible climb.

Machu Picchu Mountain, located directly opposite Huayna Picchu, is slightly steeper and taller. It’s perfect for those seeking a challenge and equally rewarding in terms of panoramic views.

If you would like to add the climb of Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain to your 2-day Trail, please contact us for more information and booking details.
